Late Archaic and Red Mountain phase structures and extramural pits from the western McDowell Mountain bajada provide insight into the subsistence strategies and organizational patterns of prehistoric groups in south-central Arizona. Spatial patterning of subsurface features documents a decrease in task groups size through time that represents intensification of collection and processing activities to more effectively exploit bajada resources. The Last Ditch site is a processing site where few artifacts were discarded
