In the dissertations of professionals, one does not take up the research process straightaway within a logic of knowledge ana questioning, that is a logic based on books and theory ; the external world, the field, personal professional experience also intervene. The presentation of the field of activity is also the presentation of the research field. In this very early expository phase, turning to recognized authors plays an essential but very localized role on account of the general nature of the themes thus dealt with. This connection of the theoretical contribution with the presentation of the field is largely dominant ; nevertheless other approaches should not be neglected, particularly because some dissertations implement various practices according to the moment when they are introduced
