Enterprise unions are labor unions organized and controlled by a membership employed within a single enterprise. Enterprise unions are usually referenced as Japanese‐style enterprise‐based labor unions, which have formed industrial federations and made up the majority of union membership in Japan since the 1960s. Thus, there are two approaches to defining “enterprise unions”: the first is to examine the characteristics of unions based on a single employer, and the other is to briefly examine their history and practice in Japan
