Some speculations on expected changes in life style sparked by the energy dilemma are discussed. The future (1995) general outlook will be a synthesis of ideas coming out of today's low technology communes and high technology industries, and will be more functional and less possessive. A basic change will be creation of the recycle society in which secondary materials (waste and scrap) will be major resources and the untapped natural resources will be the back-up supplies. To make this transition, new legislation, tax incentives and other measures will be necessary. The environmental impact of such a recycle society will be greatly reduced. A substitution not only in materials but also in functions is foreseen in the future society. Communications could become a substitute for transportation. Shopping, for example, may be done via videophone and computer. Other changes that may be initiated are listed
