As an improvement over existing indices of roll call cohesion, Steven Brams and Michael O'Leary have proposed a new Agreement Level (AL) measure which purportedly is unique in its abilities to yield values between zero and one for any sized voting body and to handle voting situations in which any numbers of voting options and roll calls are considered. Straightforward mathematical manipulation of the AL formula, however, demonstrates the essential equivalence of the AL index to simple extensions of the square of the Rice Index of Cohesion in the general k-option voting situation, and accordingly suggests a natural method by which such extensions may be applied to compute the cohesion of groups in legislative bodies having three or more voting options
