L'anthropologie et la sociologie ont érigé leurs sous-disciplines économiques en questionnant l'économisme, c'est-à-dire la tendance à définir l'économie comme une sphère tout à fait autonome, fonctionnant selon ses propres principes .Cette conception, qui nous vient des physiocrates (Quesnay et le tableau économique) 1 et de l'économie politique classique (Adam Smith, Ricardo), a été reprise par les théories dites néolibérales, dont le porte-parole le plus éminent est Milton Friedman de l'Université de Chicago 2 .Cette vision néolibérale a dominé les réflexions politiques et populaires sur l'économie depuis les années 1980 .Cependant, les crises successives qui ont marqué l'économie mondiale dans les années 1990 -par exemple au Japon, en Asie du Sud-est ou en Argentine -ont soulevé des interrogations au sujet du programme néolibéral .C'est aussi au coeur du pays qui s'est fait le plus grand promoteur du néolibéralisme, les États-Unis, que la dernière grande crise a éclaté .Par ailleurs, on observe certains signes de démonopolisation du savoir économique de la part d'économistes orthodoxes et d'autres agents sociaux qui suivent leurs prémisses .La remise en question des modèles économiques normatifs soulève le problème non seulement de la connaissance, mais également de la construction des modèles, du fait que cette remise en question s'accompagne d'une prise en compte des approches inductives empiriques, notamment de la part de l'anthropologie économique
