A comparison of the frequencies of blood groups, haptoglobins, and hemoglobins of Chamorros and Carolinians of Saipan showed significant differences in the Rh, MNS, P, and Kidd systems. The differences were not of sufficient magnitude to exclude the possibility that the two groups were of the same ethnic origin. Thalassemia of the β variety was detected in two Chamorros, indicating the presence of this complex in Micronesians as well as in other ethnic groups of the southwestern Pacific
