SINCE THE CULTURAL Revolution, the theory of continuous revolution (chi-hsii ko-mning) has been accorded major significance in the Chinese Communist Party's own conception of its theoretical framework. This has been reflected in its incorporation in both the General Program of the Party's 1973 Constitution and the Preamble to the 1975 Constitution of the People's Republic, and in the frequent reference to it in discussions of political questions in the Chinese media. From these sources we can identify the major components of the theory, as summarized, for example, in the Party Constitution's formulation
