The culture of competence is upon the profession of psychology. Although that culture has resulted in numerous changes in the profession over the past few decades, we continue to face challenges. These challenges include issues such as the profession's competency models, training models, accreditation models, specific competencies (e.g., research, diversity, supervision), training sequence concerns (e.g., the internship match imbalance, postdoctoral experience requirements), and scope of competent practice issues. This article describes these challenges with the hope that the profession of psychology will be able to work together to resolve them, in spite of some critical differences in viewpoints.
