Several educators have emphasized the importance of the individual viewpoint in any culture. This article discusses a procedure for individualizing and personalizing foreign culture and language study. What is proposed is that the students each create a fictional autobiography of themselves in the foreign culture. They do this by adapting what they are learning in the text and other sources to four simulated conditions each experiences in the foreign culture, i.e. to a physical and social environment, to an orientation to time and to genetic characteristics found in that culture
