She almost never left her cell, and usually stayed lying down. When she did go out, she would be naked, or wearing a chemise. She would take only a few steps, and generally she would walk on all fours, stretching her body out on the ground; with staring eyes, she would pick up any morsels which she found on the floor and eat them. . . .
