A review of an experimental program offering psychotherapy with mentally retarded children. The article considers the rationale of offering psychotherapy to these children; a psychiatric division of mentally retarded children in terms of the absence, presence, and type of emotional disorders; and the basis of selection of these children. The experiment sums up three years of work. It includes a brief discussion of the modifications of usual modes of psychotherapy for adaptation to this group
