A study of factors affecting patient compliance with diagnostic recommendations isolated three clinic variables that successfully classified patients into compliance, partial compliance, and noncompliance groups. This study, which shifts the focus of compliance factors from patient to clinic variables, suggests that the effectiveness of professional-patient communication within a single diagnostic conference is selective, depending upon the specific content of treatment recommendation
