Cet article examine les mots qui se réfèrent aux autochtones dans les écrits de Samuel de Champlain et du capitaine John Smith. Il montre que les mots « sauvage/savage » sont synonymes de l'expression « habitant de l'Amérique du Nord ». D'ailleurs, le vocabulaire utilisé par ces deux auteurs a grandi au cours des années et a changé selon l'endroit de l'écriture. Grâce à cette étude, nous comprenons mieux le sens historique des mots « sauvage/savage »
