S ummary . An educational psychologist observing the teaching performance of borderline pass‐fail students, noticed their consistent unattractiveness. This observation led to an examination of the relationship between attractiveness and assessment in two methods subjects. The female students rated ‘ attractive ’ obtained significantly better marks than those rated ‘ unattractive.’ For male students the differences were not significant. Some implications of this result for teacher training were examined
