DO WE have an American youth problem? This is a question that is in the minds of a great many people. There has been so much spoken and written about youth in the last few years that many people are sincerely questioning whether too much attention is not being given to youth, and whether all that is being said about them and all that is being done for them are not mistakes. Is not all this emphasis upon youth destroying one of the very finest qualities that all youth should possess-selfreliance? Furthermore, are not certain groups and agencies taking advantage of this situation and definitely exploiting youth? These are very pertinent questions, and ones which are cause for genuine concern. It probably is futile to try to say whether or not we have a youth problem in the United States. We do know that we have many problems of youth. We have always had problems of youth and shall continue to have them. We do know also that many of these problems of youth have become very acute in recent years, and from a study of these problems it seems quite certain that they will continue to be especially urgent for some time. It is likely that the farm situation and the labor situation offer rather close parallels to the youth problem. Farm and labor problems have become so acute in recent years that they are quite commonly referred to as The Farm Problem and The Labor Problem respectively. In somewhat the same manner we may say that we have a Youth Problem. ADJUSTMENT OF YOUTH TO SOCIETY
