The harmonization project of European higher education puts social work practice at risk in some respects, yet presents an opportunity to strengthen the profession. This article argues that social work should capitalize on the so-called Bologna reform by paying closer attention to common features of the different practice traditions throughout Europe. With a comparative studies approach, there is potential to gain greater influence in shaping social work training to measure up to the profession at its core
