Ideology, Discourse, and Gender
By examining how gatekeepers talk about women who work in the male-dominated occupation of the public school superintendence!, we show that gatekeepers' explanations and descriptions of women's actions and situations frequently embody the ideologies and discourses of individual achievement and gender neutrality. Organizational influences on women's experience in the superintendency
This article examines superintendent‐school board relationships in three school districts where the superintendents are women. Drawing upon multiple sources of qualitative data and concepts from Kanter's structural framework, the author analyzes organizational influences that shape the process of superintendent selection and the conditions under which authority is negotiated
