Using anger as a mediating role to examine how compulsory citizenship behavior relates to voice behavior and work–family conflict
Compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) is an emerging workplace issue. Drawing on affective events theory and crossover model, this study examines how employees compelled to perform organizational citizenship behavior may experience anger, which can manifest in workplace voice and produce crossover effects leading to work–family conflict (WFC). Anger is proposed as a mediator between CCB and both voice behavior at work and WFC at home. A three-sta…
The Impact of Compulsory Citizenship Behavior on Employee Complaints
This study extends affective events theory (AET) by exploring how compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) shapes employee complaints through anger, and how leader–member exchange (LMX) moderates this process. Using data from 394 leader–member dyads in a Taiwanese public organization, the results show that employees compelled to perform extra-role behaviors experience stronger anger, which in turn increases their likelihood of complaining. Anger thu…
How psychological contract breach relates to façades of conformity
We investigated the relationship between psychological contract breach (PCB) and façades of conformity and mediation by surface acting and deep acting. Employees (n = 255) from a large bank in Taiwan were surveyed (female = 58.80%; mean age = 36.30 years, SD = 10. 91 years; mean years of service = 8.80 years, SD = 6.18 years) in three waves of data collection over a period of three months. Results from Structure Equation Modelling (SEM) analyses …
How and when authoritarian leadership affects compulsory citizenship behavior? A moderated mediation model of façade creation and leader-member exchange
Compulsive citizenship behavior and turnover intention
How does workplace bullying lead to employee compulsory citizenship behavior and affect spouse well-being? Anger as the mediating role
Linking Paternalistic Leadership to Employee Inauthentic Behavior
This study examined the effect of paternalistic leadership on follower fake behavior and compared the effect of authoritarian leadership with that of benevolent leadership and moral leadership on the facades of conformity. The study suggested that leader authoritarianism resulted in high levels of employee facades of conformity, whereas both leader benevolence and leader morality produced low levels of employee facades of conformity. This study u…
Exploring the Cross-Over Effect of Employees’ Compulsory Citizenship Behavior on Spousal Family Satisfaction
Compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB), the "dark" facet of organizational citizenship behavior, typically embodies good citizenship behavior within an organization. This study aimed to examine how employees' compelled engagement in extraneous role behaviors diminishes their spouses' well-being through complaints. Specifically, this study developed and evaluated a moderated mediation model in which employee mindfulness moderates the pathway from c…
Façade Creation and Workplace Bullying
This study examines the buffering role of a psychological contract breach in the process leading from façade creation (i.e., suppressing one’s own values and pretending to hold organization values) to workplace bullying through leader–member exchange (LMX). This study predicts that façade creation, particularly when the level of psychological contract breach is high, produces high LMX, which reduces bullying in the workplace. In total, 302 employ…
Compulsory Citizenship Behavior and Facades of Conformity
Drawing on the social exchange theory, this study investigates how compulsory citizenship behavior (CCB) produces facades of conformity through citizenship pressure, and whether neuroticism moderates the relationship among them. This study surveyed 356 employees (259 males, 97 females; average age 37.7 years) of a northern Taiwanese corporation to investigate the relationship among CCB, citizenship pressure, and facades of conformity. The study f…
Does family undermining influence workplace deviance? A mediated moderation model
Using a crossover model, we examined the relationships among family undermining by their partner and the psychological strain and workplace deviance of employees, and also investigated the moderating effect of employees' emotional exhaustion on their psychological strain, leading to workplace deviance. Analysis of 3-wave data obtained from 332 employee–partner dyads (246 male employees, 86 female employees) at a large industry in southern Taiwan …
