  • Young People's Visions for Life in the Countryside in Latin America

    Open Access•Anne Cristina De La Vega-Leinert, Julia Kieslinger et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Review•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 38

AbtractYoung people steer their life trajectories against the backdrop of profound transformations of rurality. They are considered protagonists in the present and future of rural areas; however, their experiences and perspectives on life in, and away from, the countryside have been scarcely acknowledged in academia. Considering conceptual thoughts on new mobilities, place-based belonging, and new ruralities, we argue that young people are a high…

  • Extractive Conservation

    Open Access•Anne Cristina De La Vega-Leinert, Peter Clausing•ARTICLE•Environment and Society•2016•References: 105

In view of the Aichi international policy targets to expand areas under conservation, we analyze to what extent conservation has become an inherent element of extraction. We scrutinize the Land Sparing versus Land Sharing debate by explicitly incorporating environmental justice issues of access to land and natural resources. We contend that dominant conservation regimes, embedded within Land Sparing, legitimize the displacement of local people an…

  • Sustainability Science Partnerships in Concept and in Practice

    Open Access•Anne Cristina De La Vega-Leinert, A CRISTINA DE LA VEGA‐LEINERT et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Research•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 40

This paper makes the case for advancing sustainability science partnerships (SSPs) both within universities and through innovative means of integrating universities with external public‐private and civil sectors. It links the basic principles of sustainable development with an emerging science of cooperative learning that connects researchers to a wide range of partners. SSPs are specifically designed to be transformational through becoming activ…

  • Ecosystem Service Supply and Vulnerability to Global Change in Europe

Open Access•Dagmar Schröter, Wolfgang Cramer et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2005

Global change will alter the supply of ecosystem services that are vital for human well-being. To investigate ecosystem service supply during the 21st century, we used a range of ecosystem models and scenarios of climate and land-use change to conduct a Europe-wide assessment. Large changes in climate and land use typically resulted in large changes in ecosystem service supply. Some of these trends may be positive (for example, increases in fores…
