  • Calcined Bone as a Reliable Medium for Radiocarbon Dating

    Open Access•James C Chatters, James W Brown et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•2017•Cited by: 6•References: 17

Radiocarbon dating using charcoal and bone collagen, two standards of archaeological chronology, can be difficult to impossible in environments where natural burning is common and bone does not preserve well. In such settings, charcoal ages cannot always be trusted and collagen is unavailable. Calcined bone can be a viable alternative medium in these situations but it has rarely been exploited in the Americas. One area that could benefit from its…

The evaluation of a campaign to increase cardiovascular health knowledge indicates that within the treatment community, education was a significant predictor of knowledge before the campaign but was not a significant predictor after the campaign. Recently, however, scholars in France have been devoting considerable time to develop innovative uses of comics in the foreign language classroom. Most of the methodologies so far devised center on pedagogical application…

Marijuana use among recent alumni reflects prior diffusion of a student subculture with a variety of correlated norms and values. Constraints of family and job, and change of associates after graduation, foster cessation of such drug use more often than complete change from the other values of this subculture. Diffusion of norms and values of the student subculture among educated young adults off campus is evident in many alumni not much involved…
