  • Patologisering af non-reproduktive seksuelle praksisser aktuelt og historisk

    Open Access•Henrik Skov Nielsen•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2024

The article provides a critical commentary on the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, DSM-V, from 2013. It traces the historical reasons behind the fact that sexual preferences are included as mental disorders in the psychiatric manual, even if many of them are empirically neither generally associated with impairment or harmful to anyone else. This holds true for fetishism, masochism and consensual sadism a…

  • Response to Dan Shen

    Henrik Skov Nielsen, Zetterberg-Nielsen Zetterberg-Nielsen•ARTICLE•Style•2021

Let me begin by thanking Dan Shen and the editors at Style for the invitation to contribute to the special issue and to respond to the target article by Dan Shen. I admire her work and vast knowledge, to which the target article testifies. I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with her ideas and suggestions, which in the current context specifically concerns what she coins “covert progression.”Dan Shen is aware that “covert progression” sou…

  • Fictionality

    Karin Kukkonen, Henrik Skov Nielsen•ARTICLE•Poetics Today•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 26

Cognitive and unnatural approaches to literature take very different stances on the issue of fictionality. While cognitive approaches consider everyday nonfictional and literary fictional narratives to highlight their similarities, unnatural approaches to narrative stress the exceptionality of the fictional. This article investigates disagreements and potential points of mutual interest in a dialogue between Henrik Skov Nielsen, representing unna…

  • What Really Is Unnatural Narratology

    Jan Alber, Stefan Iversen et al.•ARTICLE•StoryWorlds A Journal of…•2013•Cited by: 3•References: 1

What Really Is Unnatural Narratology? Jan Alber (bio), Stefan Iversen (bio), Henrik Skov Nielsen (bio), and Brian Richardson (bio) We are always happy to clarify our work, discuss our ideas, explain our concepts further, and, for that matter, rethink our terms, arguments, and positions. This is the job of any intellectual, and it is especially important when one is developing a new conceptual paradigm. Hence, we would like to thank David Herman, …

  • Unaturlige fortællinger. Hinsides mimetiske modeller

Open Access•Jan Alber, Stefan Iversen et al.•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2011

UNNATURAL NARRATIVES, UNNATURAL NARRATOLOGY | In recent years, the study of unnatural narrative has developed into one of the most exciting new paradigms in narrative theory. Both younger and more established scholars have become increasingly interested in the analysis of unnatural texts, many of which have been consistently neglected or marginalized in existing narratological frameworks. By means of the collaboration of four scholars who have be…

  • Narrativ etik

    Open Access•Henrik Skov Nielsen•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2009

Narrative Ethics?:The present article first presents a brief review of major trends in the narratology of recent year’s. Next it focuses specifically on the ethical narratology associated with Wayne Booth, James Phelan and Dorothy Hale. By presenting Phelan’s ethical approach to a short story by Ambrose Bierce, the article introduces methodological tools it puts to the test by sketching out a reading of the question of right in Steen Steensen Bli…

  • Sex og vold

    Open Access•Henrik Skov Nielsen•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2008

Sex and Violence:Literary critics have paid very little attention to Bret Easton Ellis’s book Glamorama. In fact no-one I know of has even undertaken the seemingly simple task of finding out what actually happens in the course of the narrative. In this article I will do just that and analyse the book by considering such basic parts of the book as its title, the first and last page and the plot. I will pay special attention to the multilayered vio…

  • Selvmordsaktioner

    Open Access•Henrik Skov Nielsen•ARTICLE•K&K - Kultur og Klasse•2007

Suicide MissionsThe article falls into two interconnected parts. In part one a diagnosis of the economization of universities and the theoretical developments in the humanities in Denmark is provided with an emphasis on literary theory. Positions and persons associated with literary theory have become so weak and diffuse that theory no longer poses a counter-logic or counter-language to other logics and languages such as political or economical o…
