  • Dynamic Factor Correlations

Open Access•Chen Tong, Peter Reinhard Hansen•ARTICLE•Journal of Applied Econometrics•2026

We introduce a dynamic factor correlation model whose core methodological innovation is a variation‐free parametrization of dynamic factor loadings, inspired by the generalized Fisher transformation. The model accommodates time‐varying correlations, heterogeneous heavy tails, and dependent idiosyncratic shocks. Applied to a Small Universe of 12 assets and a Large Universe of 323 stocks, the factor structure induces a sparse idiosyncratic correlat…

  • Cluster GARCH

Chen Tong, Peter Reinhard Hansen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2026

We introduce a novel multivariate GARCH model with flexible convolution-t distributions that is applicable in high-dimensional systems. The model is called Cluster GARCH because it can accommodate cluster structures in the conditional correlation matrix and in tail dependencies. The expressions for the log-likelihood function and its derivatives are tractable, and the latter facilitate a score-driven model for the dynamic correlation structure. W…

  • Sleep status and its association with dietary habits among children and adolescents in Shandong Province, China

Open Access•Zhihao Huang, Chen Tong et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Dietary habits significantly influence sleep duration among children and adolescents in Shandong Province. Regular breakfast consumption, increased intake of vegetable and fruit, and reduced consumption of sugary beverage and fast food were associated with improved sleep duration. These findings underscored the importance of promoting healthy eating behaviors as a key strategy for addressing sleep-related issues and improving overall well-being i…

  • The "New Urban Poor" Identity

    Open Access•Chen Tong, Tong Chen•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Higher education can play a crucial role in shaping one's social identity, and a diploma from a prestigious institution has a positive effect on a person's social status. However, the expansion of college enrollment in 1999 in China weakened the capacity of a college diploma to confer on graduates a distinct identity as someone of high standing. For youth from rural backgrounds, higher education was once the most important channel for upward soci…

  • Landscape Grain Effect in Yancheng Coastal Wetland and Its Response to Landscape Changes

Open Access•Peng Tian, Luodan Cao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The landscape grain effect reflects the spatial heterogeneity of a landscape and it is used as a research core of landscape ecology. The landscape grain effect can be used to not only explore spatiotemporal variation characteristics of a landscape pattern, but also to disclose variation laws of ecological structures and functions of landscapes. In this study, the sensitivity of landscape pattern indexes to grain sizes 50-1000 m was studied based …

  • "On the System of "Semi-Nonagricultural Population

    Chen Tong, Tong Chen•ARTICLE•Chinese Sociology & Anthropology•1996

The current registration management system in China at the macro level strictly controls the blind influx of rural population into the cities. Due to the constraints of such a system, there has never been an urbanization process in the modern sense of the word in China. For the past forty years, the volume, scope, and speed of the transformation of a rural population into an urban population have consistently been at a relatively low level. This …

  • Marxism and Christianity within the great wall

Huang Quanyu, Chen Tong et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Philosophy•1994

Chinese culture has remained steady, stretching through time as long and unbroken as the Great Wall. In thousands of years, Chinese culture has exhibited a remarkable ability to assimilate foreign intrusions. Even though several times throughout Chinese history minority nationalities have been in military and political control of China, they were gradually assimilated by Chinese culture. Christianity has spent more than a thousand years attemptin…
