Open Access•Christina Hamme Peterson, N Andrew Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•The Family Journal•2023

This study was conducted to test for method bias stemming from mixing positively and negatively worded items in a widely used measure of family functioning, the Systemic Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation (SCORE). • A National Survey of Counselors’ Use of Five Types of Program Evaluation

Christina Hamme Peterson, Kaitlyn Schmid et al.•ARTICLE•Counseling Outcome Research and…•2019

Evaluation is a critical part of counseling practice. Single case evaluation, needs assessment, formative, outcome, and summative evaluation are used at different points in a program for different questions. Few studies have examined counselors’ evaluation practices and none have compared school, mental health, and other counselors’ use of these five types. In this study we investigate the frequency with which counselors perform evaluation, if ev…

  • Research Training Needs of Scientist-Practitioners: Implications for Counselor Education

Open Access•Christina Hamme Peterson, Sean B Hall et al.•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 34

Counselors (N = 911) reported the research skills needed for practice and subsequent research training needs. Findings indicate that counselors have a high need for research skills at work, but training needs differ significantly by counselor type. Recommendations include increasing emphasis on single-case design, survey design, and widely available data analysis tools

  • Parent and Teacher Support Among Latino Immigrant Youth: Effects on School Engagement and School Trouble Avoidance

    Open Access•Pauline Garcia-Reid, Pauline Garcia‐reid et al.•ARTICLE•Education and Urban Society•2015•Cited by: 9•References: 39

While a significant portion of Latino immigrant youth are failing to meet their academic potential, many others have been able to acquire the resources needed to excel academically. This study examined social capital assets (i.e., parent and teacher supports) for school engagement and trouble avoidance among a sample of recently arrived, non-U.S. born, middle school Latino adolescents ( n = 141) residing in a high-poverty community located in the…

This study reports results of a questionnaire of 210 counselor educators regarding assessment instruments covered in their assessment courses. Sugges…

Open Access•N Andrew Peterson, Christina Hamme Peterson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•2011•Cited by: 49•References: 45

Sociopolitical control (SPC) is generally considered to be a vital element of the intrapersonal component of psychological empowerment, despite contradictory findings concerning the dimensionality of the construct when applied to a youth population. This study tested the Sociopolitical Control Scale for Youth (SPCS-Y), which was designed to represent the two hypothesized dimensions of leadership competence and policy control, using data from a sa…
