  • A randomized trial of humor effects on test anxiety and test performance

    Ronald A Berk, Joy P Nanda et al.•ARTICLE•Humor - International Journal of…•2006•Cited by: 2•References: 2

This investigation tested the hypothesis of humor effects on test anxiety to improve test performance. A pretest-posttest control group design was employed to determine differences between humorous and serious versions of the same test content. One graduate biostatistics course of 98 students participated. Based on three independent test administrations, ANCOVAs were computed to isolate the effects of humorous directions only, humorous items only…

  • The Construction of Rating Instruments for Faculty Evaluation

    Ronald A Berk•ARTICLE•The Journal of Higher Education•1979•References: 53

For over fifty years, hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the country have evaluated the effectiveness of their courses and instructors by means of student ratings [2, 11, 16, 31, 59]. Despite the predominance of this approach to instructional evaluation, there is considerable confusion over the construction of rating instruments. Many of the instruments currently being used by college administrators and instructors lack reliability …

Written in ANSI F…

  • Effects of Choice of Instructional Methods on Verbal Learning Tasks

    Open Access•Ronald A Berk•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

62 children in Grades 2 through 5 were matched on the variables of sex, race, and age. Each member of the matched pairs was randomly assigned to a choice (treatment) or no-choice (control) group. Subjects in the choice group were asked to choose between individualized and group instructional methods; those in the control were assigned the methods by a teacher. Two verbal tasks and measures were administered to all subjects. A 2 (choice) × 4 (age)…

  • Note on Measuring Stability of Personality Traits

    Open Access•Ronald A Berk•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1976

This note suggests an application of the G index of agreement for improving the measurement of trait stability. Implications for the item-selection process and estimation of retest or intraclass reliability coefficients across occasions are discussed

  • An Evaluation of a Negro History Textbook Versus A White History Textbook Using Fifth Grade Children

    Ronald A Berk•ARTICLE•The Journal of Negro Education•1972

National interests and societal attitudes in the area of race relations have changed significantly in the past decade. Some of these changes are reflected in the public school curriculum. Representative of these changes has been the addition of black studies programs in the public schools. This was a response on the one hand to the demands of the black community, and on the other, to a decision made by educators that new, relevant content was nec…
