  • The performance of L2 French children on the Litmus-QU Nonword repetition task during their first year of exposure: Impact of age, vocabulary size, verbal-short term memory and phonological awareness

Open Access•Letícia Almeida, Christophe Coupé•ARTICLE•Bilingualism Language and Cognition•2025

In this study, we describe the performance of 62 newly immigrated children to France at a nonword repetition task (LITMUS-QU-NWR-FR) designed to evaluate bilingual children’s syllable structure. Children were between 6;0 and 9;1 and had diverse language backgrounds. They participated in our study during their first year of exposure to French. The majority of our children exhibited a good performance on the task. The variation observed is related …

Open Access•Letícia Almeida, Margarida Possidónio et al.•ARTICLE•Languages•2024•References: 21

The literature on bilingual language development often reports cases of cross-linguistic interaction of the two languages being acquired. In this paper, we investigate possible cross-linguistic interaction outputs in the development of branching onsets in the bilingual acquisition of French and Portuguese. Thirty French-Portuguese bilingual children, aged between 3;6 and 6;1, participated in our study. Their elicited productions were collected us…

  • What do monolingual and bilingual children with and without SLI produce when phonology is too complex

Open Access•Letícia Almeida, Sandrine Ferré et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•2019

In this study, the authors compare the production of internal codas and branching onsets in four groups of children learning French: monolingual typically-developing children ( n = 12), bilingual typically-developing children ( n = 61), monolingual children with Specific Language Impairment ( n = 17) and bilingual children with Specific Language Impairment ( n = 20). Their elicited productions were collected using a nonword repetition task (LITMU…

  • Identification of bilingual children with Specific Language Impairment in France

Open Access•Letícia Almeida, Sandrine Ferré et al.•ARTICLE•Linguistic Approaches to…•2017

We report on the usefulness of three LITMUS tools in distinguishing bilingual children with SLI (Bi-SLI) from bilingual children with typical development (Bi-TD), in France: LITMUS-NWR-FR (non-word repetition), LITMUS-SR-FR (sentence repetition), and LITMUS-PABIQ (parental questionnaire). 82 bilingual children, aged 5–8, who had all been exposed to both French and either Arabic, Portuguese or Turkish, recruited both in ordinary schools and in SLP…
