Perceived discrimination and employment anxiety among impoverished students in Chinese higher vocational colleges
This study investigated the relationship between perceived discrimination and employment anxiety among economically disadvantaged students in Chinese higher vocational colleges (HVCs), exploring the underlying mechanisms through an indirect statistical pathway involving relative deprivation and rumination. We surveyed 1,703 economically disadvantaged enrolled students from five higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province, China. Participants co…

Cardiometabolic multimorbidity and frailty in middle-aged and older adults
Background Cardiometabolic diseases are prevalent among ageing populations and have a close association with frailty. However, the cumulative impact multiple cardiometabolic diseases have on frailty remains underexplored. Methods This study used data from four international cohorts – HRS, CHARLS, ELSA and SHARE – to examine the correlation between frailty and cardiometabolic diseases (CMD). The frailty index was used for assessing frailty and sta…
Controlling Spatial Heterogeneity of Land Transfer Dynamics Using Multiscale Regression Approach for Sustainable Resource Management
Land reallocation dynamics play a crucial role in shaping urban development and environmental sustainability in rapidly urbanizing countries. This study employs Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) and Multiscale GWR (MGWR) models to analyze the spatial heterogeneity of land reallocation drivers across 285 Chinese cities, focusing on years 2008 and 2013. Our results reveal significant spatial variations in drivers of land reallocation, with e…

When Information Conflicts with Obligations
We experimentally test how psychological motivations can impact the processing of purely objective information. We first document that, when the high-stakes College Entrance Exam is held in the month of Ramadan, Chinese Muslim students perform significantly worse. When asked about the impact of fasting, they severely underestimate the cost of taking the exam during Ramadan, even when presented with direct empirical evidence. In the experiment, we…
Sustainable Leadership, Knowledge Sharing, and Frugal Innovation
The present study aims to investigate the relationship between sustainable leadership styles and frugal innovation in SMEs in the Chinese context. We also investigate the role of knowledge sharing as a mediator in the relationship between SL-FI. Furthermore, this study introduces the situational variable organizational innovation climate to explore its moderating role between KS-FI. The data were collected from corporate employees of SMEs in Chin…
Distribution Characteristics and Restoration Application of Vegetation in Chengcun Bay Surrounding Areas of Yangjiang City
In recent years, global warming and sea level rise have further aggravated the risk of coastal erosion. Coastal vegetation plays an important role in resisting storm surges and alleviating coastal erosion. Therefore, screening plant species for the purpose of constructing ecological seawalls to protect or repair damaged coastal zones has become a hot issue. In this paper, a field survey was conducted to investigate the vegetation in Chengcun Bay …
Spatio-Temporal Evolution and Driving Factors of Rural Settlements in Low Hilly Region—A Case Study of 17 Cities in Hubei Province, China
With the rapid development of the social economy, factors of social and economic development in China's rural areas have been continuously reorganized, and the pattern and distribution of rural residential areas have undergone significant changes. In rural areas, there have been many peculiar phenomena of "reducing people but not reducing land in rural areas, which has caused tremendous pressure on land resource protection. We used geographic det…
Prediction of Covid-19 Patients at High Risk of Progression to Severe Disease
In order to develop a novel scoring model for the prediction of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) patients at high risk of severe disease, we retrospectively studied 419 patients from five hospitals in Shanghai, Hubei, and Jiangsu Provinces from January 22 to March 30, 2020. Multivariate Cox regression and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were both used to identify high-risk factors for disease severity …
Effects of Pre-Oxidation on Haloacetonitrile and Trichloronitromethane Formation during Subsequent Chlorination of Nitrogenous Organic Compounds
The reaction between organic matter and disinfectants leads to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs) in drinking water. With the improvement of detection technology and in-depth research, more than 1000 kinds of DBPs have been detected in drinking water. Nitrogenous DBPs (N-DBPs) are more genotoxic and cytotoxic than the regulated DBPs. The main methods are enhanced coagulation, pretreatment, and depth technologies which based are on co…
Humanitarian Organizations in International Disaster Relief
This study explores how humanitarian organizations (HOs) link donors and recipients in a disaster relief coordination mechanism. Based on an analysis of real data collected from the financial tracking service, our results show that disaster assistance through the HO channel greatly exceeds the funding delivered by the non-HO channel. The severity of the disaster is positively correlated with the involvement of HOs. Disaster-stricken countries tha…
