Profile of mood states and quality of life of Chinese postmastectomy women in Hong Kong: Integrating variable- and person-centered approaches
Understanding the mood state and its relationship with quality of life (QOL) of mastectomy recipients can serve as baseline within which a sound rehabilitation program can be developed. This study therefore was conducted to facilitate a better understanding of participants' postmastectomy mood states, identify their potential predictors, identify clusters of mood profiles, and clarify between-cluster differences in terms of QOL. Hong Kong mastect…
A latent profile analysis of university students' self-regulated learning strategies
Based on self-reported cognitive, metacognitive, and behavioural strategy measures obtained from 828 final-year students from a university in Hong Kong, latent profile analysis (LPA) identified four distinct types of students with differential self-regulated learning strategy orientations: competent self-regulated learners, cognitive-oriented self-regulated learners, behavioural-oriented self-regulated learners, and minimal self-regulated learner…

Influence of student learning experience on academic performance: The mediator and moderator effects of self‐regulation and motivation
This study examined the mediator and moderator roles of self‐regulation and motivation constructs in the relationship between learning experience and academic success. Pre‐ and post‐intervention learning competence measures (the 10 scales of the Learning and Study Strategies I…

Pre‐Sentence Reports: Does Quality Matter
In recent years much attention has been paid to research into the value and effectiveness of pre‐sentence reports and this has contributed to the emergence of the concept of “quality assurance”. This encompasses the practice of monitoring reports for “quality” and “effectiveness” and the assumption that there is a positive association between these two factors. In other words, higher quality will normally be associated with a higher level of agre…
Criminal Justice Pre and Post October 1992: What Future for the Probation Order: The Results of a Local Study
This article brings together local research based on a magistrates' court in the south west of England with national statistics produced by the Home Office. It identifies the decline of the probation order and links this to the context of pre‐sentence report practice post implementation of the Criminal Justice Act 1991. It argues that unless there are significant improvements in report writing in the near future the probation order as a sentence …
