Open Access•Jun Ren, Fuling Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2026

The objective of aesthetic education courses in higher education is to nurture students’ spiritual growth. The theory of psychological compensation offers a significant perspective for achieving these educational goals. Drawing on survey data from a single university in Guangxi, China ( N = 653), this exploratory study examines how aesthetic education courses may support students’ psychological compensation processes. Through questionnaire survey…

  • Ownership and agency modulate self-positivity effect

    Open Access•Ke-chen Xu, Zi-yi Li et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

In value assessment, the self-positivity effect refers to the tendency to assign higher value to self-related objects. However, the distinct and interactive contributions of ownership and agency to this effect remain unclear. Across four behavioral studies (total N = 137) and an event-related potentials (ERP) study (N = 30), we manipulated ownership and agency using an object evaluation paradigm while recording subjective value ratings and P300 a…

Utilizing data from Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies during 2012–2023, this study examines how digital transformation influences inefficient investment under the dual pressures of operational diversification and environmental uncertainty. We employ a corporate digital transformation index evaluation system encompas…

  • Evaluating mental health apps under uncertainty

Open Access•Adjei Peter Darko, Baojing Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Despite the proliferation of mental health apps (MHAs), their evaluation remains challenging due to inconsistent clinical validity, poor long-term engagement, and limited consideration of expert disagreement. Existing evaluations often use single-point scores or star ratings for decision-makers’ assessments, overlooking the uncertainty, variability, and emotional factors that shape decision-making. Additionally, many mHealth studies employ multi-…

  • A study exploring predictors of cell phone use while walking among adolescents based on theory of planned behavior

Open Access•Bei-Bei Tang, Biaoqian Tang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The key points to preventing teenagers from using mobile phones while walking are to instill a correct attitude toward dangerous behavior, build a stronger sense of norm, help them form good habits in mobile phone use, and improve their ability to control their behavior

  • Expanding self, breaking stereotypes, and building hospitality

Collins Opoku Antwi, Adjei Peter Darko et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Sustainable Tourism•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 108

Mindfulness is a critical instrument in sustainable tourism development. However, existing literature on mindfulness' role in hospitality and tourism sustainability has mostly focused on tourists' perspective. In this study, we shift perspective to gain insight into how and when residents' mindfulness relates to their attitudes and behaviors in host-tourist relation. Integrating mindfulness and motivated information processing theories, we develo…

  • Sustainable cross-border tourism management

Collins Opoku Antwi, Seth Yeboah Ntim et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Sustainable Tourism•2023

The psyche-altering effects of COVID-19 pandemic on sustainable tourism behaviors are underexplored. More so, the scant research largely presents tourists’ perspective. Extending this body of work, our study – deploying evolutionary tourism paradigm, examines whether, the why and when perceived COVID-19 infectability (pathogen avoidance motive) impairs resident hospitality, using a multi-wave data from MTurk U.S. workers (N = 857). As predicted, …

Open Access•Michelle Allyshia Belle, Collins Opoku Antwi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Career Development•2022

Thoughts about life after school can be frightening for college students. The uncertainty about employment expectancies can engender crippling anxiety, especially in a time of a major pandemic—COVID-19, and urgent attention is needed. This study, drawing on the self-determination theory, demonstrates preliminary protective effect of positive psychological capital (PsyCap) on employment anxiety among a relatively understudied group—graduating coll…

  • A Cross-Temporal Meta-Analysis of Changes in Left-Behind Children’s Mental Health in China

Open Access•Xiaoyi Zhang, Zhoudao Dai et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

A considerable body of research using the Mental Health Test (MHT) has explored the psychological repercussions of the physical separation of children from one or both parents as they pursue better economic prospects in cities. Generally, these studies compare the mental health status (MHS) between left-behind children (LBC) and non-left-behind children (NLBC). That notwithstanding, little is known about the real policy impact of these studies on…

  • Meditation Makes A Peaceful State of Mind

Jun Ren, Lu Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

  • Implicit Positive Emotion Counteracts Ego Depletion

Open Access•Jun Ren, Lingyun Hu et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•2010

Previous researchers have shown that individual acts of self-regulation deplete individual psychological resources, resulting in poor subsequent self-regulation and ego depletion. It has also been shown that to counteract ego depletion, besides getting enough sleep or rest, positive emotions are important. In this study we aimed to establish whether or not implicit positive emotion is important in countering ego depletion. In 2 experiments measur…

  • The Simulation of Urban System Dynamics in Atlantic Canada, 1951–1991

    Open Access•Jun Ren, Roger White•ARTICLE•Canadian Geographies /…•1995•References: 11

A dynamic urban model is used to study the post‐war evolution of the Atlantic Canada urban system. The computer‐based simulation model is calibrated for the period 1951‐86 and then employed to predict the 1991 population of each cma and ca within the system. The simulation results show that, to a large extent, the evolution of the system can be understood in terms of endogenous system dynamics rather than exogenous events. Specifically, competiti…
