School Based Mental Health: The Structure of the Partnership Matters
Relative importance of behavior-specific determinants of heavy episodic drinking among U.S. young adults
The study examined the relative importance of heavy episodic drinking (HED)-specific determinants on past 2-week HED status among White, Black, and Hispanic young adults. Analyzing data from the wave III binge sample of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, the study found that the relevance of HED-specific beliefs/expectancies, injunctive and descriptive norms, social images/prototypes, self-efficacy, and anticipatory em…
Social Capital Effects on the Relation between Neighborhood Characteristics and Intimate Partner Violence Victimization among Women
Beyond what, to how: Different ways African American adolescents receive ethnic and racial socialization messages
This study links the expression aspect of MOT with ethnic and racial content in interviews that highlight teenagers' voices about how verbal and nonverbal messages about ethnicity and race are received. Further research that examines MOT in relation to message content will provide fuller awareness of ethnic and racial socialization processes. Statistical Versus Substantive Dimensionality: The Effect of Distributional Differences on Dimensionality Assessment Using Dimtest
It is believed by some that most tests are multidimensional, meaning that they measure more than one underlying construct. The primary objective of this study is to illustrate how variations in the secondary ability distribution affect the statistical detection of dimensionality and to demonstrate the difference between substantive and statistical dimensionality. Given dichotomous data simulated to be multidimensional, this study shows how varyin…
The dominance analysis approach for comparing predictors in multiple regression.
A general method is presented for comparing the relative importance of predictors in multiple regression. Dominance analysis (D. V. Budescu, 1993), a procedure that is based on an examination of the R2 values for all possible subset models, is refined and extended by introducing several quantitative measures of dominance that differ in the strictness of the dominance definition. These are shown to be intuitive, meaningful, and informative measure…
