  • When the Integral Meets African Ethics: Contextualizing Laudato SI

    Open Access•Isaiah A Negedu, Ameh Pius Faruna•ARTICLE•Religions•2024•References: 7

The concept of the integral speaks to the holistic nature of the globe. It is predicated on the claim that everything/everyone is related, and the destruction of one is the destruction of the whole. As such, it places a moral burden on each part to work towards the preservation and dignity of the whole. This ethics of union is aptly captured in Laudato Si' (On Care for Our Common Home), a papal encyclical of Pope Francis. African moral theory per…

  • Rethinking the identity problem in African philosophy: A Conversationalist Account

    Isaiah A Negedu, Maduka Enyimba et al.•ARTICLE•African Identities•2023•References: 12

In this work, we reconsider the question of African identity and how it conflates with the various nuanced dimensions of the African. We argue that as an offshoot of hegemonic scholarship, the debate on identity pitches the Africans against the ‘other’. We demonstrate that in this process of self-recognition and self-discovery, the Africans are at war with the self. This process of discovery of the African person has been ongoing through principl…

  • Are the communications of African flight attendants a form of slurred speech

Isaiah A Negedu, Peter Echewija Sule•ARTICLE•Filosofia Theoretica Journal of…•2022

Onboard international flights, you may have witnessed the pre-takeoff information/in-flight safety speech by the cabin crew. It is not out of place that they tend to be European in their mode of speaking. However, when on a local flight, the Europeanness of speech still comes out loud. We want to understand why such Europeanised intonation should be and the audience it is meant to serve. Our research leads us to the conclusion that this insensiti…

  • African Philosophy Post 1994: In Conversation with Alena Rettova

Open Access•Isaiah Negedu, Isaiah A Negedu et al.•ARTICLE•Modern Africa Politics History…•2022

The present article aims to initiate a conversation with Alena Rettová on her article “Post-Genocide, Post-Apartheid: The Shifting Landscapes of African Philosophy, 1994-2019” that was published in Modern Africa in the Summer of 2021. We identify several issues in her historical account of African philosophical thoughts that need polyphonic engagement in order to ensure that Africa’s pluralistic intellectual heritage is not reduced to a monophoni…

  • African Metaphysics, Epistemology and a New Logic: A Decolonial Approach to Philosophy , by Jonathan O. Chimakonam and L. Uchenna Ogbonnaya

    Isaiah A Negedu•ARTICLE•Philosophia Africana•2022

In African Metaphysics, Epistemology and a New Logic, Jonathan O. Chimakonam and L. Uchenna Ogbonnaya investigated the idea of metaphysics and epistemology from the African place. This book is relevant on several levels. First, it is an engagement in the decolonial project, and by this I mean that it recognizes and engages in ideas that are foundational to knowledge that is culturally inspired but not culturally bound. Second, it is not a tug-of-…

  • Intercultural communication in the wake of globalism

    Isaiah A Negedu, Solomon O Ojomah•ARTICLE•European Journal of Intercultural…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The need for interactions in the world that take into consideration the peculiarities of everyone/culture is triggered by the urge of one or few cultures to subsume all others into some sort of arrangement that is not properly negotiated. This paper argues for inclusiveness of cultures that have been suppressed in the guise of creating a global village. There are some lessons that hegemonic cultures can learn from others. The paper makes the case…

  • The question of African communalism and the antithesis of democracy

    Isaiah A Negedu, Solomon O Ojomah•ARTICLE•Filosofia Theoretica Journal of…•2019

In this paper, we argue that communalism is not uniquely African. It comes in different forms of social and psychological thinking which can be found in any culture and society whether capitalistic or socialistic where the notion of social belongingness through reasoned reflection transcends the desire for personal gratification. We claim that some values of communalism such as altruism, mutual cooperation, complementarity etc., can be useful in …

  • Deconstructing African History from Western Historicism

    Open Access•Isaiah A Negedu, Solomon O Ojomah•ARTICLE•Alternation Interdisciplinary…•2018•Cited by: 1

If a people were to write their own history to be solely accepted as an ideal, it would not be abnormal for them to do so in their own favour. The history of the African peoples as documented by Western literatures, mostly comprises the exaltation of European culture through various stereotypical labellings of African history and culture. In the same vein, most Africans would be tempted to rewrite African history in favour of the cultures/ traditi…

  • Scientific progress and postmodern culture: The African experience

    Isaiah A Negedu, I Negedu•ARTICLE•Filosofia Theoretica Journal of…•2015

Scientific discourse grew out of various philosophical puzzles raised by human beings from the period of antiquity; and each age always comes with a renewed vigor for development over previous schools of thought with their attendant theories. With the speed of scientific progress and scientific awareness, there is no doubt that scholars from various disciplines fashion out theories to meet with the demands of the scientific spirit. It is this ver…
