  • Obrazki porażki [Images of Failure]

    Open Access•Xawery Stańczyk•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2021

Images of FailureOn the one hand, the sphere of art offers the possibility to imagine a different, less oppressive and normative world, where just as in the case of cartoons even the greatest gawks, misfits, and outcasts would build friendships and alliances helping them to reach a happy ending. On the other hand, there is something of an artistic performance, at least of an illusionist show, to an intentional act of failure. To perform failure, …

Xawery Stańczyk, Yann Lacouturière et al.•ARTICLE•Slavica Occitania•2020

The youth culture of the long 1980s in Poland differed from the one known from the former decades as it was distinguished by the phenomena of overidentification with the authoritative discourse characteristic for the late socialism era. Exemplification of that can be the popularity of images and utterances of Lenin in the youth circles. The poe…

The Polish sociological and anthropological literature on youth culture in the Polish People’s Republic is based on the assumption about a strong impact of the political decisions of the state and of the ruling party on the styles, behavior, and attitudes of the youth during the socialist period. This reductionist assumption overlooks the fact of the spontaneous, bottom-up participation of thousands of young people in socialist organizations, eve…
