  • Fat Talk in College Women

    Open Access•Simon E Dalley, Paolo Toffanin et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education & Behavior•2022

This study placed the phenomenon of college women’s fat talk within response styles theory. We predicted that with increasing trait body dissatisfaction there would be an increase in rumination leading to a greater frequency of fat talk. We also predicted that neuroticism would moderate this mediation pathway, and that these effects would occur over and above body size. A survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 212 college women with a me…

  • Taste-Aversion Conditioning, But Not Immunosuppression Conditioning, Occurs Under Partial Water Deprivation

    José VIDAL, V D Chamizo•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•2008

The authors investigated whether conditioned taste aversion and immunosuppression took place when water was available during conditioning and test protocols. The authors elicited taste-aversion conditioning and immunosuppression in outbred CD1-strain mice by pairing a conditioned stimulus (sucrose or saccharin solution) with an unconditioned stimulus (cyclophosphamide) that causes gastrointestinal upset and is immunosuppressive. The authors intro…

  • Effect of Reduced Immunity on Murine Behaviors

    Open Access•José VIDAL•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1999

Reduction of immunity in 11 mice of the CD1 strain by administration of methotrexate did not alter some reliable behaviors in the open-field (ambulation, rearing, defecation) compared with 10 matched mice injected with saline. Perhaps moderate depression of immunity may not affect some characteristic behaviors

  • Influence of the Specific Immune Response on Some Consistent Murine Behaviors

José VIDAL•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1999

The author's goal was to discover if the generation and maintenance of the specific immune response resulted in alterations of reliable behaviors (i.e., behaviors correlated over time). The behaviors (ambulation, rearing, and interaction with a conspecific) of CD1 male mice were measured in a small open field, and several days later, the mice were immunized with antigens (either splenocytes from C57BL/6 mice or a mixture of sheep erythrocytes and…

  • Behavior and the Antibody Response as Differential Traits in Three Murine Inbred Strains (DBA/2, Balb/c, C57BL/6)

José VIDAL, R Rama•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1994

The goal of this research was to find out whether an antibody response is consistently associated with any particular behavior across three murine strains (C57BL/6, BALB/c, and DBA/2). The mice took the following behavioral tests: two open fields, a hole board, and a light-darkness test; afterward, they were immunized with rat erythrocytes, and serum levels of IgM and IgG antibodies were measured 5 and 15 days postimmunization. Nonparametric Krus…

  • Antibody Response and Some Behaviors as Differential Traits between Two Inbred Strains of Mice (C57BL/6 and Balb/c)

Open Access•José VIDAL, Adela Fusté Escolano et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1993

The goals of this research were to find out if the antibody response and some behaviors are differential traits for murine strains C57BL/6 and BALB/c and to study the influence of strain and isolation on both behavior and the antibody response. 21 C57BL/6 male mice and 28 BALB/c male mice were used; of those, 11 C57BL/6 and 16 BALB/c were kept isolated, and the remaining mice were housed 2 per cage. The tests were Open-fields 1, 2, and 3 (of vary…

  • Antibody Response to Rat Erythrocytes and Some Behaviors in Two Strains of Mice after Social Isolation

Adela Fusté Escolano, Adela Fusté et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1993

The purpose of this research was twofold: (a) To find out if the antibody response and some behaviors are differential traits for mice (murine strains C57BL/6 and BALB/c); and (b) to study the influence of strain and isolation on both behavior and the antibody response. We used 21 C57BL/6 male mice and 28 BALB/c male mice; of these, 11 C57BL/6 and 16 BALB/c were kept isolated. The rest were housed 2 mice to a cage. We used three open-field tests …
