    Stefan Andriopoulos•ARTICLE•Grey Room•2023•References: 5

undertaking a new reading of texts by Immanuel Kant and Karl Marx.I begin, however, by putting forward some general points, thereby laying the groundwork for an analysis of different historical instantiations of this intimate link between the spread of unreliable information and newly emerging media. • Arrested in the Moment of Dying

    Stefan Andriopoulos•ARTICLE•American Literature•2018•References: 13

  • Kant's Magic Lantern

    Stefan Andriopoulo, Stefan Andriopoulos•ARTICLE•Representations•2011

This essay juxtaposes Kant's critical epistemology with the visual medium of the phantasmagoria and a contemporaneous debate about spirit apparitions. Kant's notion of Erscheinung as an appearance or apparition of a supersensory thing in itself draws on the previous hypothesis of genuine spirit apparitions from his Dreams of a Spirit Seer (1766). His doctrine of transcendental illusion, by contrast, adapts a second, skeptical explanation of spiri…
