Collateral Increases in Performance of Long Division Resulting from On-Task Gains Using Token Reinforcement and Self-Recording
The present study was designed to assess the collateral increases in one underachieving student's accuracy rate of completing assignments as a result of gains in on-task behavior. A second purpose was to evaluate the maintenance potential of self-recording on the student's on-task behavior gains. Initially, a combined external reinforcement and self-recording procedure was utilized to effect increases in the student's task-oriented responses. The…
Officer friendly
A police-community relations program in elementary schools, called the “Officer Friendly Program,” was evaluated. The program attempted to increase awareness of legitimate services performed by the police and to improve rapport with uniformed police officers. Males (second graders) who used a “Crime Resistance Activity Book” or had the book and officer visits in their classes were more likely than a control group to represent officers as helping …
Recognition Memory for Paraphrases
To supply evidence concerning memory for paraphrases, 42 men and women undergraduates learned a set of eight sentences, presented in either the active or passive voice. On an immediate recognition test, Ss were given both structural (active-passive) and lexical (synonym substitution) paraphrases of the sentences learned and asked to identify the original stimuli. Most false recognitions were given for structural changes, followed by lexical subst…
Imaginal Attributes in Learning Sentence-Embedded Noun Pairs
168 Ss learned 10 pairs of sententially embedded nouns. The sentences presented the nouns in either a positive interactive, negative interactive or noninteractive context. Ss saw the sentences in either a bizarre or nonbizarre form. Noun-vividness, defined as the presence or absence of a color adjective, was varied as a within- Ss factor. Ss learned significantly more nonbizarre pairs, and the nonbizarre groups significantly outperformed a standa…
