  • Telling the Truth

Dirk Werle, Uwe Maximilian Korn•ARTICLE•Journal of Literary Theory•2020

Research on the history of fiction of the early modern period has up to now taken primarily the novel into consideration and paralleled the rise of the novel as the leading genre of narrative literature with the development of the modern consciousness of fictionality. In the present essay, we argue that contemporary reflections on fictionality in epic poetry, specifically, the carmen heroicum , must be taken into account to better understand the …

  • Ethos und Pathos der Geisteswissenschaften

Ralf Klausnitzer, Carlos Spoerhase et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Ethos und Pathos der Geisteswissens…•2015

This book examines the ways that texts from the humanities have fostered particular approaches to knowledge by constructing different versions of a ‘scientific ethos’. • Klopffechtereien - Missverständnisse - Widersprüche?

Robert Bernasconi, Dirk Werle et al.•BOOK•Klopffechtereien - Missverständniss…•2012

German…

  • Uncertain Knowledge. Scepticism and Probability 1550-1850

Carlos Spoerhase, Dirk Werle et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Unsicheres Wissen•2009•Cited by: 2

In this book, authors from a variety of disciplines examine how the interpretative disciplines deal with the lack or loss of certainty for their signs and texts. The focus is on forms of scepticism and theories of probability in the period from 1550 to 1850 which make it possible to access conceptualisations of “uncertain” or “weak” knowledge. Using historical source-material, the volume takes up impulses from research into probability and scepti…
