Graduated driver licensing with mandated driver training in Ohio is associated with fewer serious injury and fatal crashes among young novice drivers
Impact of TNC on travel behavior and mode choice
Trade Uber for the Bus
Problem, research strategy, and findings: Few studies have examined ride-hail users’ individual preferences between ride-hail and transit. Based on a survey of ride-hail users in the Philadelphia (PA) region, I examine who uses ride-hail and investigate ride-hail users’ willingness to use ride-hail versus transit. My results suggest that more than one-quarter of respondents replaced transit with ride-hail in their last ride-hail trips. Mixed logi…
Investigating Travel Needs and Traffic Conditions in the TNC Era with Taxi Data
This paper uses Philadelphia’s taxi data between January 2015 and December 2017 to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of taxi trip declines after the launch of transportation network company (TNC) services. Findings show declining number of taxi trips throughout the day and worsening congestion in downtown. Multilevel models indicate that wealthier neighborhoods correspond to bigger taxi trip losses, while neighborhoods with higher …
Transit user perceptions of driverless buses
Do Denser Neighborhoods Have Safer Streets? Population Density and Traffic Safety in the Philadelphia Region
This study uses multilevel negative binomial models to investigate relationships between neighborhood socio-demographics, urban form, roadway characteristics, traffic collisions, injuries, and fatalities on the Philadelphia region’s streets from 2010 to 2014. We pay particular attention to neighborhood population density. Results indicate that streets in denser neighborhoods have fewer overall collisions, injuries, and fatalities. The association…
