  • Dancing my scoliosis

Weronika Grantham, Ejgil Jespersen et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Research in Sport and…•2021

When I was twelve years old, I attended a routine school posture screening. Following an orthopaedic examination, I was diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Although it turned out for me that it was not a serious and progressive form of scoliosis, the diagnosis impacted my life in a disabling way, resulting in feelings of fear, anxiety, and losing a sense of trust in my own body. I experienced bodily doubt. This was also accompanied by…

  • Outline of Mimesis, Honor and Dignity in Modern Sport

    Open Access•Ejgil Jespersen•ARTICLE•Physical Culture and Sport…•2019•References: 6

When reading the masterpiece about “The Agon Motif” by John W. Loy and W. Robert Morford (2019), I was struck by their recurrent reference to the pursuit of honor in agonal sport contests, as it has become common sense to replace honor with dignity in modernity. I take the German social-philosopher Axel Honneth (1995) as a prime example of spelling out the replacement of honor with dignity in what he names “the struggle for recognition”. In a his…

  • The Lived Experiences of Participating in Physical Activity among Young People with Mental Health Problems. A Recovery-Oriented Perspective

    Open Access•Anna Staal, Ejgil Jespersen•ARTICLE•Physical Culture and Sport…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 1

There is a growing understanding that psychiatric treatment is more than psychotherapy and medication, and that people themselves can be active in preventing and handling mental health problems. This brings non-medical solutions into play. Physical activity (in terms of exercise, sport, and fitness) becomes an important contribution in this particular context. The perceived mental and physical benefits of physical activity (both preventative and …

  • Sport for All Frail Bodies

    Open Access•Ejgil Jespersen•ARTICLE•Physical Culture and Sport…•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 5

Sport for All is a universal Olympic idea adopted by supranational institutions such as the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and the UN. Measures that need to be taken to ensure that all people have an equal opportunity to be included in sport are analyzed and discussed based upon a survey of sports and exercise participation in Denmark with a special focus upon people with impairments. The prevailing point of view is a special needs approach to sports…

  • The Embodied Nature of Autistic Learning

    Open Access•Ejgil Jespersen, Jing He•ARTICLE•Physical Culture and Sport…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 1

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and learning difficulties are difficult to separate in clinic manifestations and diagnoses. By taking learning as being-in-the-world, this article considers the embodied nature of autistic learning and urges its importance for understanding the phenomenological core of ASD. We begin by arguing that three mainstream contemporary ASD theories are inherently limited in offering an adequate account of autistic learning …

  • Læring som individuel kaprustning

    Ejgil Jespersen•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2006

Saledes tager Knud Illeris, professor i …

  • Skill Acquisition in Ski Instruction and the Skill Model’s Application to Treating Anorexia Nervosa

Open Access•Liv Duesund, Ejgil Jespersen•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Science Technology &…•2004

The Dreyfus skill model has a wide range of applications to various domains, including sport, nursing, engineering, flying, and so forth. In this article, the authors discuss the skill model in connection with two different research projects concerning ski instruction and treating anorexia nervosa. The latter project has been published but not in relation to the skill model. The skill model may very well be applied to these areas, and the authors…
