Catulliana
In the following, I will propose and/or defend new or previous emendations for a set of passages in Catullus, most of which are deemed corrupt or even beyond repair by many, if not all, philologists. For the sake of simplicity, I will first quote Mynors's OCT text, except for possible changes in punctuation that will be justified, either implicitly or in their own terms, in the ensuing discussion. Those sections I consider incorrect I will put be…
A Note On Manilius 5.87
The ill-formed paradosis of Manilius 5.87 has been corrected in very different ways by Bentley, Rossberg, Housman, Goold, and Flores. None of these emendations is satisfactory. Syntax and sense are restored if one edits cumque libebit, equum ludetper terga uolantum, which allows accounting for the corruption of the line
Propertius 3.10.17
The vulgate text at Prop. 17–18 om. N 17 polles T, uulgo : pelles FLP

Towards a universal definition of the caesura
In modern verse, the caesura can be roughly defined as the first word-boundary that follows the nucleus of a non-final break syllable; it is synthetical if, and only if, it is associated with the break syllable, otherwise it is analytical. This approach runs into difficulties when applied to the Homeric hexameter and the iambic trimeter of Greek tragedy or comedy. Relying on a theory which explicitly distinguishes between underlying feet and the …
Propertius 3.1.27
The paradosis of Propertius 3.1.27: Idaeum Simoenta Iouis (cunabula parui) is either lacunose (N) or nonsensical (all other manuscripts). Gustav Wolff 's celebrated. . . cum prole Scamandro runs against objections in terms of paleographical verisimilitude, intertextual relevance, and conformity with elegiac diction. This paper provides arguments in favor of. . . ruisse in pabula parta , which echoes two Homeric passages ( Il . 5.773-7, 12.19-22) …

Sur l'épistémologie de la poétique
The aim of this paper is to provide an epistemological analysis of Jakobson' s poetics. I claim that, although poetics deals with norms, it is no more committed to any variety of subjectivism than Gricean pragmatics. I also claim that Jakobsonian poetics was originally reductionist, in that the basic dichotomy between metaphor and metonymy was assumed to account for the two artistic uses of verbal structures, namely literary prose and poetry. Thi…
