The Effects of Metacognition on Senders’ Feedback Effect in Computer-Mediated Communication
This work explores the role of metacognition (Schwarz, 2011) and may be used to explain some of the effects predicted by Walther’s Hyperpersonal Model of computer-mediated communication (CMC; 1996). In an original experiment, participants (N = 290) were randomly selected to either favorably or unfavorably evaluate a target or not evaluate the target at all. Further, participants were assigned to a distractor task vs. no distractor task condition …
Testing the Effect of Sending an Evaluative Message on Perceiving Others in Computer-Mediated Communication
Interpersonal mediated communication research has demonstrated that exchanging cues during online interactions can change message receivers’ perception of the senders in socially desirable ways. Building from previous self-transformative work, this work explores how perceptions of others are also shaped by the messages we write evaluating others. More specifically, the research examines the effects of sending different types of evaluative message…
A Systematic Review of Contactless Technologies Research in Hospitality and Tourism During the Covid-Pandemic
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of contactless technologies in hospitality and tourism has grown exponentially, making understanding consumer adoption of these technologies an important research area. A systematic literature review of relevant studies published in hospitality and tourism journals was conducted to identify three main subsets of the antecedents of contactless technologies adoption: system, user, and the…
When Social Media Influencer Endorsement Backfires
By applying the two-step flow theory, this research examines if the level of brand equity impacts consumers’ attitudes toward social media influencers and consumers’ visit intention, and if influencers’ recommendation type plays a moderating role in the process. This research employs a scenario-based experimental design. Study 1 examines the main effect of brand equity on consumers’ attitudes toward the influencer and consumers’ visit intention. …
Electronic Consumer-to-Consumer Interaction (eCCI) Post a Service Failure
The prevalence of eCCI (electronic customer-to-customer interaction) is rapidly growing as customers increasingly employ online tools to reach fellow customers and voice their opinions, especially after service failures. Adopting a quasi-experimental design, this research examines the impact of eCCI on restaurant customers, considering their need for approval. A total of 201 responses were obtained for the main experiment (Study 1). Results indic…
