Barriers to healthcare access and continuity of care among Ukrainian war refugees in Europe
Introduction: The Russian invasion of Ukraine displaced over 14 million people. By 2024, around 6 million Ukrainian refugees settled in Europe under the EU Temporary Protection Directive, providing permit of residence, work and health care. This influx strained European healthcare systems, particularly in addressing acute injuries. As the stay of refugees in EU countries prolongs, the management of chronic conditions becomes increasingly importan…
Fostering Mental Health Literacy Among Primary School Professionals
Mental health challenges among children and adolescents have become a pressing global concern, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing geopolitical instability. This study evaluates the impact of an online training program, Well@School, designed to enhance Mental Health Literacy (MHL…
Exposure to Toxic Compounds Using Alternative Smoking Products
Tobacco control policies have aimed to reduce the global prevalence of smoking. Unfortunately, the recent survey data shows that about 24% of Europeans still smoke. Although combustible cigarettes remain the most used tobacco product, the tendency made evident in the prevalence of smoking-alternative nicotine-containing products increases. Studies that can objectively assess the long-term health effects of the latter products are lacking, so asse…

How to Link Assessment and Suitable Interventions for Adolescents
It is crucial to determine specific risk factors and particular groups of teenagers who need psycho-emotional support the most. The findings of this study may offer valuable insights for advancing additional prevention or support programs aimed at adolescents within higher-risk groups
Lifestyle Habits Related to Internet Use in Adolescents
Prolonged internet use is arising as a serious problem among adolescents. Negative feelings, unhappiness, and poor emotion regulation have an association with internet addiction. Also, the female gender may be more associated with possible internet addiction. The results of this study can serve as initial steps toward developing preventive interventions
Men and women choose moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and sedentary behaviors with a “hot” mind rather than a “cold” one
The results of our study suggest that enhancing EI ("hot" mind) may be more effective than reasoning skills ("cold" mind) in promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior, particularly in women. These findings highlight EI's potential as a key driver of active lifestyles, while logical reasoning appears to have a lesser impact
Mood profile in men and women of all ages is improved by leisure-time physical activity rather than work-related physical activity
This study provides theoretical implications of the physical activity paradox, justifying the benefits of moderate to vigorous physical activity practiced in different circumstances. According to the regression analysis, exercising men in all age groups moved the most (had a higher moderate to vigorous physical activity level) during leisure time, the highest work-related moderate to vigorous physical activity was observed in men and women with l…
Health and social needs of asylum seekers and Ukrainian refugees in Lithuania
Refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants often do not end up in the places they expected. Because of the pandemic impacts, their exposure to COVID-19 may be increased as a result of crowded camps and detention centers. A total of 4,537 undocumented migrants entered Lithuania via Belarus from June 2021 to November 30, 2022. In the period 24 February 2022 to 30 November 2022, Lithuania's Immigration Department registered 71,386 Ukrainian refugees. Th…

A culturally competent approach could be used to address gaps in the health care of migrants, whether they are refugees, asylum seekers, or undocumented migrants. From June 2021 onward, there are estimated to be 4,300 asylum seekers in Lithuania who crossed the Belarusian border. Furthermore, ~65 thousand Ukrainians registe…

The First Wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic Strengthened the “Strong” and Weakened the “Weak” Ones
The aim of this study was to explore how the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which contact communication was severely restricted, changed psychological health indicators, such as subjective assessment of health and depression, impulsivity, stress and emotional intelligence (EI) and how that depended on age, gender, physical activity (PA), sports specificity and body mass index (BMI).We surveyed 6369 before and 2392 people during the f…
Do Physical Activity, BMI, and Wellbeing Affect Logical Thinking
We studied 6368 people (4544 women and 1824 men; aged 18-74 years). The research goal was to determine whether the Cognitive Reflection Test score (logical thinking compared with intuitive thinking) depends-and in what way it depends-on the healthy lifestyle components and emotional health-related components as well as age (18-74 years) and gender. We established that analytical vs. intuitive thinking depended on components of a healthy lifestyle…
