Acceptability and cultural appropriateness of a parenting programme to reduce violence against adolescents in Tanzania delivered at scale
Although parenting programmes may be effective at reducing violence against children (VAC), there is a limited understanding on how acceptable and appropriate such programmes are among parents/caregivers ('caregivers') when delivered at scale. This paper explores the acceptability and cultural appropriateness of a parenting programme for caregivers and their adolescent girls, Parenting for Lifelong Health for Teens (PLH-Teens), which was delivere…
Parenting programs for adolescent parents
issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and is associated with health, social, and economic challenges for both mothers and children. Although parenting programs improve outcomes globally, there is a critical gap in tailored interventions for adolescent parents. This mixed methods systematic review aimed to address these gaps by conducting a global search of parenting programs designed or adapted for adolescent parents and making…
The association between positive parent–child interaction and mental health outcomes in children aged 1–11 years in Canada
While it is theorized that positive PCI is predictive of child mental health, this study did not find a consistent association, except for the frequency at which the parent laughs with the child. This suggests that PCI, as measured in CHSCY, is not a strong indicator of child mental health. Yet, as PCI is an important parenting concept, the PCI items in the CHSCY may not adequately capture the intended construct. Future studies should consider as…
Reducing family and school-based violence at scale
BACKGROUND: Parenting programmes, including those delivered in the Global South, are effective strategies to reduce violence against children (VAC). However, there is limited evidence of their impact when implemented at scale within routine delivery systems. This study aimed to address this gap by evaluating the real-world delivery of Parenting for Lifelong Health for Teens in Tanzania. METHODS: Participating parents/caregivers and their adolesce…
Parenting Interventions During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Evidence shows that parenting interventions are an effective method of reducing caregiver-perpetrated child maltreatment. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has changed the provision of parenting interventions worldwide, with many interventions adapting to continue providing services during the crisis. This global systematic review examined how parenting interventions targeting child maltreatment and its risk and protective factors were adapted during …
The Prevalence of Sexual Assault Among Higher Education Students
Sexual assault among higher education students has detrimental impacts on the health and educational outcomes of survivors. This systematic review aims to describe and synthesize the available quantitative evidence on sexual assault prevalence among this population. We searched Medline, EMBASE, Global Health, PsycINFO, Web of Science, ERIC, and CINAHL for studies published in English, French, Italian, and Spanish from database inception to August…
Risk and Protective Factors for Men’s Sexual Violence Against Women at Higher Education Institutions
Sexual violence among higher education institution (HEI) students is a growing public health concern. To date, there is little evidence on how to effectively prevent sexual violence among this demographic. This study is the first systematic review to meta-analyze all available evidence for risk and protective factors of sexual violence perpetrated by men at HEIs. We searched four electronic databases and multiple gray literature sources. We scree…
The Science of Scale for Violence Prevention
Ending all violence against children by 2030 is a core part of Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 16. A number of promising violence reduction strategies have been identified in research studies. However, we lack an understanding of the implementation and impact of these programs in respect to their delivery at a large scale or within existing service systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We advocate for greater coll…
