A number of reasons why the Strzelecki Desert-Cooper creek area should be a highly suitable place in which to begin systematically seeking evidence for Pleistocene occupation in the arid zone of the southeastern part of Australia and its semi-arid fringes are provided where original archeological material in Pleistocene deposits have been found. However, indications are that the density of Pleistocene archeological remains is extremely low and that the only evidence of Pleistocene occupation will in general be stone artefacts and possible charcoal from hearths
