This article focuses on the analysis of the instructions issued by several institutions to study Roman, Islamic and Pre-Columbian antiquities throughout the eighteenth century. The aim has been to show how the study of those remains was understood at that time, specifically the architectural. It has been concluded that the difference in approach and quality of these studies lies both in the institution that commissioned them, and in the professional that carried them out
