Vietnamese Canadian writer Kim Thuy – whose novel Ru won the prestigious Governor General’s Literary Award, in Canada, in 2010 – recently stated in a CBC Radio-Canada interview that her novel celebrates the women who “held Vietnam together” during those many generations when the country was at war.
