O presente artigo tem como objectivo apresentar algumas perspectivas teóricas sobre o processo de desenvolvimento, especificamente ao nível dos múltiplos factores que contribuem para o desenvolvimento sócio-emocional da criança. Procura-se salientar a definição de desenvolvimento como produto de uma co-acção entre a biologia e as influências sociais. As interacções precoces assim como as interacções entre pares são abordadas como importantes contextos de desenvolvimento
