His current interests include the phenomenology of Alzheimer's and dementia care; visual communication for public and private audiences; and the visual commons of residential landscapes. Past interests include children's material culture, qualitative and visual research methods, school change, and the social and philosophical foundations of education. He is a past President of the International Visual Sociology Association and was founding Image Editor of Contexts magazine (American Sociological Association, 2001–2004).Don WalkerDon Walker is an award winning composer who has written more than 200 works including: 12 symphonies; 5 operas; piano, violin and clarinet concerti; 14 string quartets; 14 piano sonatas; and, more than 100 songs. Walker's compositions run the stylistic gamut from aggressively dissonant to gently lyrical, often mixing the two in the same work. Until he retired in 2003 he also served as University Archivist at the University of the Pacific where he helped organize and curate the papers and recordings of jazz great, Dave Brubeck.
