The process of practice-led research within the arts is most often experienced and expressed as a mode of enquiry through the performance of an art form or creative expression. This article instead reveals the methodologies and theoretical bases of a research project that uses exploratory experiments in mediation and meaning, as well as the application of professional practices and new media tools to an existing arts participation project. An explanation of the process and the framework reveals opportunities for further application of the methodology, which is both adaptable to the object of analysis and is in itself an object worthy of analysis. Comparisons are made with related projects in performance arts mediation and the methodology's potential for knowledge exchange — the creation and dissemination of ‘useful, transferable knowledge’ — as well as research, is presented
