Objective: to outline the first aid learning needs of teachers and staff working in early childhood education settings. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study conducted at an early childhood education institution in the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A total of 13 early childhood education professionals participated in the study. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews. The software Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires was used for data processing, employing Descending Hierarchical Classification (DHC). Results: among the four classes identified in this study, the key first aid experiences and needs to be addressed include falls, with a focus on fractures and head trauma, burns, wounds and cuts, seizures, choking, dental trauma, and cardiopulmonary arrest. Conclusion: understanding these learning needs allows for the implementation of actions that are tailored to the actual demands of early childhood education professionals, ultimately enabling the school team to provide effective first aid in everyday school situations
