This review examines scientific literature related to the participation of children as co-researchers. The study draws on the Prisma database guidelines and analyzes scientific production between 2019 and 2022. The articles reviewed evidence trends in the roles and names assigned to children in co-research, as well as participatory methodologies that recognize them as subjects of rights and experts regarding their environment who are capable of participating in the coconstruction of knowledge with adult researchers. Methodological, ethical and political challenges are also identified that highlight the need for critical reflection on the purpose and implications of child participation in research, the power dynamics involved and the recognition of children’s capacities and perspectives
